The American Eskimo Dog is believed to be one of the closest breeds to the Neolithic canines from which all modern domesticated dogs have been bred. The American Eskimo Dog used to be known as the German Spitz, but underwent a name change due to anti-German sentiment during World War I. Some American Eskimo Dogs will not let strangers in the house until the master says it is okay.
